Join us at the Northeast Georgia History Center during our last Homeschool Day of the season! May’s Homeschool Day, Appalachian Heritage, will be Thursday, May 22nd from 10 AM to 1 PM. Regular admission for non-Members, free for Members.
At 11:30 AM, we’ll have a storyteller of Appalachian tales. This program will be indoors.
Ongoing activities include:
- Learn about Appalachian daily life, including cooking, cleaning, and maintaining a home in the nineteenth century.
- Join our musicians in a jam session, or listen in on some traditional folk music.
- Hear about the special herbs and foods that are grown throughout the region.
- Participate in an Appalachian-themed scavenger hunt.
- Watch a special clogging demonstration and join in the fun.
- See real Appalachian artifacts and talk with our archivist on staff.
- Find out more about White Path, the Pinsons, and the Cooleys – all previous owners of our eighteenth-century cabin.
- Make and take home your own corn husk doll.
- Learn about making clothes of the period with the Fiber Arts Guild.
- Watch a demonstration of pottery being made.
- Make your own pottery with the purchase of a $5 craft ticket.
