Miracles played an important role in revealing divine favor in ancient Mediterranean societies. However, in the emerging Christian-Roman Empire, they were used to promote distinct and contradictory forms of spiritual authority. This talk explores the popular use of miracle stories in the late 4th century. It highlights an age of anxiety over who best represented model leaders of a Christian community.

The presentation will be follow by a Question and Answer Session with our guest speaker.
