As our nation celebrates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Northeast Georgia History Center invites you to a special luncheon with one of the Revolutionaries who added his name to that document in 1776.
Dr. Lyman Hall (1724-90) was one of three Georgia signers of the Declaration of Independence. Born in Connecticut, Hall graduated in 1747 from then Yale College. He moved to Georgia after receiving his medical degree and became an active member of Savannah’s independence movement. St. John’s Parish, now Liberty County, Georgia, chose him to attend the Second Continental Congress in 1775 where he represented the state until 1780. When British troops seized Georgia and confiscated his property in 1778, he and his family fled the state until 1782. Upon his return, Hall served one term as governor from 1783 to 1784 and is buried under the Signers Monument in Augusta. When Hall County split from Jackson County in 1818, its founders decided to honor this revolutionary by naming the county after him.
Through our commitment to preserve and share our region’s and nation’s history, the Northeast Georgia History Center will bring the past to you on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Skilled historical interpreter Ken Johnston will give life once again to Dr. Lyman Hall as he speaks from Hall’s viewpoint on his experience representing our state at the Second Continental Congress and helping our country in its beginning.
We invite you to attend the 2026 Taste of History to learn from this Revolutionary of the importance of honoring our past while sharing its lessons with our future.
